With the usual caveat for sample size, a brief tour across Twitter this morning shows many FBS programs using a homogeneous approach to signing day Twitter announcements. Did media relations folks attend a seminar on this pre-signing day?
For example, here are graphics from Georgia Tech, Arkansas, Louisiana Tech and Central Florida. Similarities exist in terms of biographical information and hometown map. GT promotes its own Twitter account, while Arkansas promotes the player’s account. Both promote program hashtags. Arkansas also provides photo credit, while GT does not. Arkansas also provides position rank while UCF discloses rival institutions. Louisiana Tech employs a more scaled down version of the same theme. (9:00 update: Chris Yandle reports GT used a staff photographer during the athlete’s OV)
Maryland takes it a step further by promoting academics and community service with one of its signees. Although in this example, the bright orange player uniform draws attention away from other graphics. In fact, the graphic may too busy overall compared with GT, Arkansas and La Tech which use school colors only.
Meanwhile, Florida State’s graphic seems, so, 2014.
